Let There Be Light

Another day, another interesting toddler stage! Since the weekend started Nate prefers to have a light on during his nap and at bedtime. We just waited until he was asleep for a little bit and then turned it off (of course the hard part is to remember to do it at night if we've already gone to bed!) I don't know how he can fall asleep with the light on, but maybe it's something new that's comforting to him. Josh changed the wattage so it's not blaring bright at least.

I'm happy we're down to the last two weeks of October. This week in particular we're suppose to get awesome cooler weather-high 70's a few days. I can't wait to see if we'll be able to hit parks and maybe a fall event hopefully before the storms roll in that we're suppose to get. I just started to buy Nate's winter clothes. Now it feels like hayride, pumpkin patch kind of weather! I think we'll be hitting a few of those.

I'm looking forward to November as I'll get to visit a close friend in Oklahoma for a few days. Josh will take off and be home with Nate for a long weekend while I get a break :) I can't wait. I was also suppose to go to Vegas with Josh the first week of November for business, but wouldn't you know the time I try to plan to actually go on a business trip with him that it got cancelled :P November I'll also be starting my second trimester of pregnancy so I'm super excited about that (as long as the nausea goes away). Its been getting better over the last week though. I'm hopefully looking forward to not being so tired and having a bit more energy.

Last weekend I had my last running 5k race. It was tough. At mile two I actually stopped at the water station to be sure I drank all the water and walked about half a mile. It was neat to see my boys close to the finish-Josh had Nate up on his shoulders and they ran the rest of the way with me up to the finish line (Nate loved bouncing on Josh-he laughed the whole way!)I just signed up for one more race-the 12k's of Christmas in December. I don't really plan to run much if at all (I'll be around 6 months pregnant then). Because the race benefits animal shelters they're allowing dogs to come so I plan to bring Lily. My favorite part about the race is that it's Christmas themed-at every mile carolers are singing and playing music, there's prizes for being the most in the Christmas spirit and after the race there is a holiday boutique to shop. It sounded like a fun race.

As usual, I'm tiring out. Night!

Table Set Up

I had to just post a quick note on something cute and interesting that Nate is doing this week. One night Josh and I each wanted a different sauce for something at dinner. Since that meal, everytime Nate knows we're going to eat (lunch and dinner, even if Josh isn't here) he takes out a different sauce for each person. Father Bear apparently likes BBQ sauce, Mother Bear likes ranch and Baby Bear likes ketchup. Nate will take them each out and put them in our "designated places" and undo the tops for us. Every meal this week. We just let him put them there, even if we don't indulge...he gets offended if we put them back at the beginning of the meal, so they sit until we're done.

So glad Friday is here. I feel relatively good on Monday and am toast by Friday as far as motivation and energy goes. Have a good weekend!

First Trimester Blues

I'm almost done with my first trimester-currently I'm nine weeks along and I'm happy I'm at least that far. Unfortunately the next four couldn't pass soon enough. When I was pregnant with Nathan, I felt practically normal throughout the first trimester. I wasn't too tired and wasn't sick unless I worked out too hard. This time around is a different story. I'm tired on top of being tired (an exhausted parent from an active toddler topped with being pregnant) and I have spontaneous nausea. It happens at any time, not triggered by anything, and can last from a moment to a few hours. I could make this grand, lovely dinner and then not feel like eating it when it's done cooking. Chinese food is on my banned list-the thought of it makes me almost ill. My beloved Starbucks-even that I'm having a little bit of trouble getting down :( I'm a bit bummed and hoping when November gets here that I feel better.

In the meantime, if Nate doesn't nap I try to get him watching something so I can at least lay down for a bit. I feel almost like a newborn-I practically go to bed when Nate does at night and need a nap during the day. I love weekends when Josh can help me out in that area.

Another first trimester blue is lacking motivation. Generally, to do anything! But for sure working out. I signed up to do a 5K run in two weeks to try and motivate me to work out at least-though I hope to run it (slowly!) It's already becoming a little difficult to run in particular because of having to go to the bathroom (already! and the baby is four inches long!) I don't know how much longer I'll be able to run before having to stop for the bathroom becomes too frustrating. So far I've found the elliptical and the bike to be better. Anything is better than nothing though! Interestingly enough, I miss the running...I've been doing significantly less since my half marathon.

Nate still doesn't quite get the idea that mommy is going to have a baby. I suppose he might get a better idea once my stomach starts to pop out more! That's the other thing-I think that's happening sooner too. At least certain times of the day I've got a little bump going on :) I'm excited for him to have a sibling, I think he's going to be a great big brother and helper to me.

Just a little mommy venting-all those hormones everywhere-but hopefully I'm going through the worst of the symptoms and November will come soon. Off to some reading before I pass out!

Mother's Day 2011....

We're looking forward to Nate having a little sister or brother in seven more months! I'm ready for the first trimester to be over (exhaustion and bouts of nausea are kicking in) otherwise all is well. So happy to finally share the news!

Favorites

I got this cool idea from a good friend who did this on her blog for her son. I thought it would be a neat idea to recall what Nate's favorite things are at the moment!

Favorite TV Show: he doesn't really get into PBS or any other stations, so nothing at the moment

Favorite DVD: it has been Baby Einstein for a very long time, and still is. However, I found a Little Einsteins video and wondered if he might get interested in something similar (just more his age now!) That has become a new favorite show and is filling up my queue on Netflix currently :)

Favorite Food: macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets and pizza

Favorite Treat: GUMMY BEARS! Thank goodness for gummy vitamins because he eats them right up.

Favorite Fruit: at the moment, grapes are popular.Nate goes in phases!

Favorite Activity: anything that involves being on the move! He loves bounce house places, we go to museums, inside play areas, etc. When it cools off we'll be off to parks a ton!

Favorite Saying(s): Oh no,gummy bears, apple juice and he copies anything you say!

Favorite Toy: his tricycle, telephone and racetrack

We'll be updating every few months! More soon...

Disney Half Marathon Weekend

I did it! Barely...hehe. I completed the Disney Half Marathon (13.1 miles) in 2hrs 42 minutes. The race was so neat with all the Disney characters cheering you on along with dancers, bands and cheerleaders, but it was also pretty tough. This was my first run outside in quite some time (which is quite different than running on a treadmill, but who is going to run when it's 105 degrees outside?)The next time I would like to do a half marathon when I can actually train outside. Live and learn :) With waking up at 2:45am to hitch a hide, be away from home and the food/drinks I'm used to having, I think I did pretty well. It was nice to have my boys at the finish line for me. After a quick rest and shower, we were off to Disney Adventure park for the day.

I should really start back at the beginning and say that I was so proud of Nate being a good boy on the six hour drive there-we stopped once and I only had to give him one bag of fruit snacks (his favorite little treat for those "moments"!) Baby Einstein helped quite a bit though. He was still pretty good on the way home too-again we stopped once to eat and let him play some. This time his treat was a lollipop we picked up at Disneyland which kept him entertained for awhile!

Back to Sunday-I was thankful that Nate was pretty much a daddy's boy on this trip.Nate wanted to do everything with his daddy so I got to just push the stroller and lag behind some. Especially on Sunday I was wiped out so I didn't mind sitting while they played! It was the perfect day to visit the Adventure Park vs Disneyland-that park doesn't take very long to do and it was less busy. I was happy to be back at the hotel by 7ish that evening to get ready for a night's rest and a full day at Disneyland on Monday.

Monday morning came (after a much needed quiet night, and Nate even slept in until 7am!) and I woke up feeling pretty sore. From my tush to my calves I was hurtin'. If I needed to bend over I had to do the splits so I didn't squat. We got to Disneyland around 8:30 and stayed until about 8:30 in the evening. A little bummed we didn't stay for the last show and fireworks but Nate was grumpy in the afternoon "trying" to take a nap (which he didn't) so we didn't want to push it. I imagine every year his Disney experience will only get better-this year was more fun because he was able to name a lot of the characters (he cared mostly about Goofy and Mickey Mouse!) He's getting taller that he can ride more of the rides and still wasn't scared of any of them (not even the roller coaster he did!) We really got most of the rides done in one day. A lot of them were operating and the waits weren't past 20 minutes or so...though I think I would still pick a day later in the week and not around a holiday to visit again. Such a fun day, I wouldn't have minded another one. I'm already looking forward to when we get to go next!

Other parts of the trip Nate enjoyed were: the elevators in the hotel (or anywhere period). That's all he wanted to do and was the first thing out of his mouth in the morning before anything else. He was our official little elevator operator for anyone we rode with. The second thing he liked was our bus (a.k.a our shuttle to the parks). He didn't mind waiting for them, he'd just be saying "bus" the whole time and now announces it everytime we see one. Lastly...I was happy that we had made reservations at a place called Blue Bayou in Disneyland for lunch (for those who don't know, it's a restaurant inside the Pirates of The Caribbean ride, you can see the boats from your table!) Though pricey, we thought the food was excellent and Nate liked pointing out all the boats that went by. I'm a jambalaya fan and thought their's was quite yummy!

Unfortunately this time around we didn't stop at the beach. It would have been something to do on the way home but we were all tired and a little anxious to get some things done at home. Hopefully the next time we visit CA we'll schedule a whole day while we're there just to get that done. It's more fun if you don't have to rush!

We had a pretty fun (though too fast) trip. It sure was a nice break to get away from the heat and into the 70's! Enjoy our pictures!

Crafty Boys

A popular hobby in our house lately! :) This time I can finally reveal a project Josh has been working on for a year or so...give or take some months. It seems like forever. He's been building.... a MARIMBA! Yes, a marimba! It's about 90% done-he has a little shaving left to fix some notes and needs a cover for it but otherwise it's up and getting played on by everyone. We have it in Nate's playroom (needless to say we've been doing some re-organizing to accomodate it!)

Also new in Nate's playroom-I got around to making a "craft line" for Nate's new crafts to be displayed on.

I was so glad to get that idea from a friend-it's an easy and wonderful way to display Nate's projects, otherwise they would be just sitting in a pile somewhere.

Well I'm not going to lie-the last few weeks have been long and busy. Now that Nate's naps have 90% gone out the window (super bummer!) that's left us with twelve hour days to fill up with activities. The boy isn't one to stay sitting for very long! God bless my gym-for an awesome price I've been totally taking advantage of having Nate go there for two hours. I work out for about an hour or so and then chill out for 30-45mins. It has worked out very well for us the last few weeks.

The long days have made us much more anxious for our little break this upcoming weekend-finally! Our trip to California is almost here! So is my half-marathon. I was so thrilled today to have run about twelve miles or so, the longest I've ever run and my last time to run a long distance before the actual race. I'm looking forward to race day. It seems like I've been training forever. While I'm looking forward to the race I'm also looking forward to taking a bit of a running break afterwards. My body deserves a little bit of a rest :) I wouldn't mind doing some classes at the gym instead-I've just been so focused on running, running, running.

Nate just turned two and a half. Wow that was fast. I can't believe in six more months I will be throwing him a 3rd birthday party! He's such a smarty pants, smarter by the day. He's started to learn letters and now he can almost count to ten! (though one-five and one-three are the most popular counting he does) As a typical two year old, he's trying to command mommy and daddy around. "Come on", "Don't touch". He enjoys helping us around the house with laundry, dishes, feeding pets, watering, and getting the mail/newspaper.Nate also likes to take off/put on his own clothes, but isn't ready yet for potty training. On the plus side, he is now playing with the toilet again, he just isn't ready to sit on it.

Now that evenings are one of the most relaxing parts of the day, I'm off to enjoy some deserved Dreyers dibbs :)

Our Newest Addition

We have another member to add to the Kucenski clan-our betta male fish Charlie! Nate and I were originally shopping at PetsMart for Lily and browsed the fish. I've always wanted to try having a fish and Nate was smiling and oogling at them so I thought, why not? After talking to an employee it seemed easy enough to take care of. Charlie is sitting comfortably on our table in the kitchen-a)where he can get some light and b)a little entertainment while Nate eats isn't a bad thing!
Charlie
We had our second craft class today. We both really enjoy it (and it's nice to pay someone to bring supplies and have the ideas!)

I know Nate is going to have thousands of pieces of art through the years but for now we're having so much fun doing them that I can't resist posting pictures :) I hope to create something that I can post all his pieces of art in his playroom.

I'm happy to announce that we are all on the mend from being sick again, hooray! I caught Josh's cough bug over the weekend but thanks to some extra sleep I'm feeling better. I really hope we stay healthy-these last few weeks it has always been something!

Busy...Part 2 :)

More firestation pictures!

In front of the firetruck

Picture with firefighter Jason (darn,it turned out blurry!)

What a great, nice group of firemen. It was cool to see how everything worked, they got new helmets in today that they let the kids wear. Nate was scared so I pretty much held him the whole time. He walked out with a smiley face though with his new coloring book, pencils and pencil holder :) We'll definately have to go again. It was neat in particular to see their slide and pole that they go down. We even got a demonstration!

Pretty seriously this time...Nate's naps are dwindling down. In particular because he's been a happier boy lately in the afternoons without them, so he's hinting he may not need them. At least that means an earlier bedtime on our part, but regardless he's still up at the same time each morning.

Can't believe that our California trip is in a matter of days. I'm super ready for some fun at Disneyland but not so much for my half marathon yet. The last few weeks things have come up that have prevented me from training as much as I'd like...so hopefully I'll be able to buckle down these last few weeks!

Time for dinner-more fun another time!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

We haven't been bored these last ten days or so. All of us got sick and when Nate wasn't napping (most everyday but one or two) we kept busy so he didn't have time to think about his molars. I think they're done giving him trouble for the moment so that's good. Few more pictures to share!

To start off, Nate and I went to our local mall to try and win tickets to see "How The Grinch Stole Christmas"-it's on Broadway now and will be making a stop in our area in November. The mall had a promotional visit from the Grinch himself-he read the story twice to the kids and the first 150 people in line got tickets to see the show. Surprisingly, Nate and I got some! I'm amazed because we never seem to be in time for anything. Of all things though I'm so glad we were in time for this-me being a big Christmas fan and so excited to take Nate to see the show. Warning: the Grinch is kinda scary looking...(but Nate didn't mind, thankfully!)

Just yesterday Nate started an Eric Carle craft class. Each week there is a different book/theme from that author that we make a craft based upon. Yesterday the theme was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". Naturally we made a caterpillar :)

Today we made a visit to a local firestation. I don't ever remember touring one, or it's been a very long time so I was looking forward to it. It lasted almost 45 minutes and we got to see pretty much everything! We saw their kitchen, bedrooms, two different trucks...lots of fun!

Toddler Teething

Grrrrr. Darn teeth. Wouldn't you know that as soon as we see the dentist and he talked about Nate needing his last set of molars-I think they're coming in. That could possibly explain why Nate hasn't been napping much (take today for example: he did fall asleep for a short bit but woke up screaming with his hands in his mouth). Nate's also been waking up at night-once-but is able to go back asleep without much assistance (just maybe some nice back rubbing for a few seconds from mommy and daddy). There was one point where for a month we were giving Nate Motrin around the clock-maybe we're heading back that way. Unfortunately for us too-now that Motrin has been taken off the shelves-I need to find something that "tastes just as good". The generic I bought Nate DETESTS. Giving him medicine by myself sure isn't fun-sticky mess,Nate throwing himself every which way to avoid it. Ugh. My poor boy.

Other than that, we're doing good. We just celebrated Josh's birthday last weekend with a surprise night away at Firesky Resort and Spa in Scottsdale. We had a great time. We made a stop at our favorite cupcake shop, swam pretty much all weekend at the resort and went out for dinner. Hubby and I enjoyed free wine and sangria provided by the resort too. Nate enjoyed our comfy beds.

We're thinking about making another camping trip next weekend-some of Josh's co-workers are heading up north to the Payson/Heber area and invited us along. Considering I see the high is around 80 degrees, I think that sounds pretty inviting! We're having 100 degree weather but with 70% humidity :P Very sticky. I'm looking forward to being in California in another month to enjoy another break from our weather!

Pictures to come after more summer adventures! ;)
